Tá sé sin an-deas. Go raibh maith agat, a Shéamais agus a Sheáin Uí
Chonchobhair.

Jeanne, as Séamas points out, this is definitely what you were looking for:

"Go mbronna An Nollaig oraibh goradh an chairdis agus anam an ghrá"

(literally, "May Christmas bestow upon you the nurturing warmth of
friendship and the soul of love.")

Le gach dea-ghuí, - Gearóid

Seo ceann níos Gaelaí a mhol Seán Ó Connor ar an bhforam do aistritheoirí ag
acmhainn.ie Is scríbhneoir é a bhíonn in Feasta agus Comhar go minic (níos
minice ná mise!).
Here's a more Irish version. It's not that the words are hard to translate,
it's the meaning of those phrases. None of those common English
idioms/metaphors exist in exactly that form in Irish, to my knowledge.

"Go mbronna An Nollaig oraibh goradh cairdis agus anam an ghrá"

(literally, may Christmas bestow to you the (nurturing) warmth of friendship
and the soul/essence of love)

(Is féidir, agus b'fhéidir níos fearr, 'goradh an chairdis' a rá, freisin)

le meas,

Séamas

A Shéamais,

Ninsa, mar a dúirt ár sinsir.

Cad faoi: / How about:

Go dtuga Nollaig teas cairdis agus spiorad gráidh duit! I used the
pre-1948 genitive on grá. Also, that's literal except I pulled out the
"the's" (the warmth, the spirit). But you mentioned that abstracts like the
"the". Maybe we should put the "the's" back in?

Tá fadhbanna go leor sa cheann seo! That's about as un-Irish sounding a
phrase as you could probably have come up with! Very hard to translate.
I'm going to see what the professionals think about this...

le meas,

Séamas

Achairde a Jerry,
May I ask how would you say in Gaelic,

"May Christmas bring the warmth of friendship and the spirit of love"

It is for my Christmas card.

Thanks,
jeanne
